报告:Physics and control of m/n=1/1 mode (sawteeth, long living modes, and flux pumping)

摘要:Internal kink instability with poloidal and toroidal mode numbers equal to one is widely observed in tokamaks. Also, the helicity is the same in all cases, the resulting behavior and its influence on the plasma confinement are very different. In some cases, the instability leads to sawteeth crashes, which can be manipulated and controlled. In the other cases, one has a constant (1,1) mode which is a new type of plasma equilibria at high beta. The other variant of the constant (1,1) mode leads to the redistribution of the plasma current from the core to the off-axis region and gives a so-called “flux-pumping” effect. The presentation aims to review all these cases starting from the simple MHD background.

报告人简介:Dr. Valentin Igochine got his University Diploma in plasma physics from Novosibirsk State University (Russia). He got his Ph.D. from Technical University of Munich (Germany) in 2002. From this time on, he worked in the Institute of Plasma Physics on ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, where he started his career as a postdoc and continued to senior researcher staff. In the last two decades, he made a series of works on control and understanding of magneto-hydrodynamic instabilities in fusion plasma with a particular focus on sawteeth, neoclassical tearing modes, and resistive wall modes. He is a member of ITPA MHD group supporting ITER, and the author of the book ” Active Control of Magneto-hydrodynamic Instabilities in Hot Plasmas” published in Springer Series on Atomic, Optical, and Plasma Physics.
